Through the years, CLICO has been putting people on the run. Every January, men and women from the world over - the Caribbean, Norway, Kenya, Canada, Germany, South America - travel to Trinidad to compete in the country’s only internationally-certified marathon.

CLICO, Trinidad and Tobago's oldest locally-owned insurance company, has been paying tribute to the axiom, "Health is wealth," through its sponsorship of major sporting events, which include Horseracing and Cricket in Trinidad and Guyana, Canoeing in Belize. CL Financial, CLICO's parent company, has also become involved in Football, Golf and West Indies youth Cricket.

"As a good corporate citizen, CLICO believes in the importance of investing in the human resources of our country and our sponsorship of sporting events is one way of doing so. Sport has multiple benefits: it improves both body and mind, builds national pride as well as develops community togetherness," said Wynell Bhagwatsingh, CLICO'S Marketing Manager.

The CLICO Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon attracts all avid runners: the competitive athletes who train all year, shaving every second possible off their time, determined to put their footprints on to the record books; the fit and fabulous who run for the sheer love of it; the marvelous masters who could have had as many as 69 candles on their last birthday cakes; and the physically challenged, who prove that to finish the course is in itself a lifetime achievement.

The marathon begins at Chaguanas at 5.30 a.m. (the physically challenged and walkers begin two hours earlier) and ends in Port- of - Spain. The course is flat and fast and takes place during the coolest time of the year. The fastest runners usually complete the course well under two-and-a-half hours.

For those who may find the marathon too demanding, CLICO, on the same day, sponsors a 5K Fun Run, which also begins and ends in Port of Spain. The Fun Run is part of the company's "RunFest" programme which began in the year 2000 in recognition of the new millennium and attracts over 1500 participants annually.
